Adventures in #Bread Recap 7 months in

I started baking back in September of last year and captured my own wild yeast starter culture in October of 2009.

I've now gone through 150lbs of flour. I don't think most people ever use that much flour in their lifetime so do I now qualify as an amateur baker?

Food Journal Start

Tuesday, March 16th

So I think I'd like to start keep track of what I eat.

Steel-cut oats for breakfast. McCann's Irish in the white/gold tin. Took about an hour and 10mins to make, using both water and milk. Added molasses, baker's sugar, cactus honey powder, vanilla extract, and Mediterranean sea salt. Leftover from yesterday so simply reconstituted with a bit of water.

For lunch, finished the rest of the home-made pasta from Bay Cities deli and mushroom/shallot cream sauce. Sauce was created by roasting a bit of garlic in grapeseed oil and then adding chopped shallots. Sauteed for a minute or two and then added the mushrooms and then 1/2pint of heavy cream. Did I add butter? I forget.

Ok, I can admit my mistakes. The cream sauce was originally for an uni spaghetti sauce. I saw "Kamaage Uni" on sale at Nijiya for $3.99 a pack. I failed to pay heed to the description that said previously frozen, boiled and salted. Umm.. no. Sea urchin roe must be fresh. Must must must. Damn, I bought 3 packs. I thought I might salvage it with this recipe, but unfortunately not.

I've also been juicing with Jack LaLane's power-juicer that was bought on a mad whim at Target one day with a Christmas gift-card. Had some carrot juice from organic carrots and then also apple juice from Red Delicious apples that were on sale at Vons for .69 cents a lb.

For dinner, I had Mickey Mouse chicken nuggets from Costco which are surprisingly kinda healthy for you with real chicken meat and no preservatives. I also took those li'l smokies cocktail sausages and wrapped them in puff pastry. I know it's more of an hors d'oeurves kinda dish, but hey.. that's what I felt like making.

In the Beginning...

Ok, so I've been thinking about starting a blog.

I wonder how much of a difference it should really make whether or not I simply use a template service like this site or if people are more attracted to a fancy well-developed and personalized site.

I guess it's just packaging and presentation, but shouldn't a blog stand on its own merit due to content?
